Breaking More Waves 2013

Welcome to 2013, happy New Year to you all.

We always open Breaking More Waves on January 1st with some sort of editorial highlighting any changes in the blog for the forthcoming year. However for 2013 it seems that we’ve reached some sort of plateau. Fundamentally we’re really happy with what we're doing and the enjoyment we get from writing it is still huge.

So essentially 2013 will be more of the same. Expect a combination of new music, discovery of artists, some posts about festivals and the odd discursive article which always seem to get a bit of attention. Back in the summer of 2012 we wrote an unedited spur of the moment post questioning if music blogs were dying. Ironically, it became our most read of the year and ever since then we’ve seen a steady increase in readership. So maybe we were wrong.

We do have one small new years resolution however. Despite having an account for a few months we've never uploaded anything to Instagram. Our resolution (or rather objective) is to give that a go. Nearly all of our pictures will be music or music festival related. We promise not to post photos of our lunch or cute cats, even if it is a very delicious one (that's the lunch not the cute cat). Maybe. You can find us on Instagram at breakingmorewaves.

To start us off on the blog here’s a new UK artist by the name of Layla, who with this rather warm and affecting song from her debut EP captures the moment perfectly. Do yourself a favour and welcome 2013 in with this. Order the EP from here

Here's hoping 2013 is a good one.

Not trying to be a massive know-it-all, but I thought you might like a heads up that Layla isn't really a new artist, she used to go by the name Jose Vanders and released an album in 2009, as well as another EP in 2011, but she's just been signed so the name change has come from that I think.

Hi The Arrogant Man

Thanks for the comment.

Yes we were fully aware of this but decided in this case to introduce Layla / Jose as a 'new' project - in fact the reason we were aware of the Layla project was because of her previous work and some contacts from that.

Lid blown off the cover now though ;)

Haha brilliant. I was trying to phrase my comment in a way that didn't make me look like a complete ass, but on re-reading I think I failed.

It's a great track, thanks for posting.
